Aimed at the care of patients in the public health network (SUS) and specialized in the treatment of highly complex cancer cases, the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo is located in the central region of the capital and is part of the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP), a special autarchy linked to the State Government, recognized as the largest and most important medical care center and hospital in Latin America.
At 112 meters high, the ICESP is the result of an investment of R$ 270 million in works and equipment, with 28 floors that include, in addition to medical care, the development of teaching and research activities according to the teaching model introduced by the Faculty of Medicine at USP in the country.
As a research and reference center at an international level in the area of cancer, including the study of new drugs and innovative treatments, its areas are composed of specialists in oncology, including surgeons, mastologists, anesthesiologists, general practitioners, radiologists and several others. medicine specialties. Thus, bringing together in a single place all the necessary resources to offer complete patient care, allowing them to have a humanized experience from diagnosis to rehabilitation, always seeking care, safety and quality.
Since its opening in May 2008, more than 120,000 people have been treated with an annual average of 45,000 patients undergoing treatment, in addition to the 7,800 new cases registered per year. Around 10,000 people circulate daily in its facilities and the Institute has 500 beds, of which 85 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 153 offices, 18 operating rooms, 107 chemotherapy armchairs, 7 CT scanners, in addition to housing the largest radiotherapy park in Brazil and the largest cancer research laboratory, all to ensure excellence in care.
